The 1957 expedition to Haramosh Peak in the Karakoram range in Pakistan is a tale in the same genre as Touching the Void - of an expedition that has gone terribly wrong.
Two climbers in the party are avalanched into a snow basin at 20000 feet, two other climbers try to rescue them but get stuck themselves in the process. The Last Blue Mountain tells of three days and three nights without food or water as the climbers try and extricate one another from an icy grave. As told by Ralph Barker, it is an epic of human endeavour and fortitude.
